DiarrheaQ: Good morning, my 7 year female doberman has been having loose stools and diarrhea for a period of about two weeks, there is a new baby in the house not sure if it that is what is effecting her or not :( i see in a previous question and answer you said to fast them for a period of 24 hours and a treatment of slippery elm, how much slippery elm should be given. thank you in advance. karen A: Follow directions given for people. no side effects. also see dr. pitcairn's book called dr. pitcairns guide to natural health for dogs and cats which goes into more detail
Hepatitis in catsQ: Thanks you for being so prompt in answering my question about giving my dog cassie benadryl. i now have another question. i hope you can help. my daughter's cat has just been diagnosed w/hepatitis. it is not contagious, her liver enzymes are elevated, but not dangerous at this time. x-rays also show her gall bladder does not look right. her x-rays from last summer should it looked abnormal, but the vet assumed it was because she had swallowed a leather shoe lace, had to have surgery to remove it. they are going to to a sonogram on her gall bladder tomorrow. do you have any idea what the problem might be? of course, my daughter is frantic. thanks for any information you can give me. A: I would wait on comments until ultrasound done and interpreted. you could use some nice liver supplements like denosyl(ask at pet meds).
Perfect teeth but falling outQ: My 9 year old dog has perfect teeth. no gum problems and no tarter. recently i have discovered that his front top two teeth are missing. is there something in his diet that i can change to prevent him from losing more teeth? A: Some dogs do have tendency to lose teeth as they get older. just make sure on good natural diet like pet guard or innova or canidae. i feel that reason why these problems are so common is that we have gotten away from what dogs evolved to eat and that is meat and bone based diets. i would check out barf diet info at barf.com to learn more
Oral rabies vaccineQ: Is there a oral version of the rabies vaccine that can be given to my dog(rottweiler) although he is a great dog and has been trained he has a great fear of needles and becomes very aggressive when i need to muzzle him for this.. its to the point now that i need to have him sedated completely to accomplish this(which makes me feel terrible for days that i have to do this) although this only happpens once a year it would be nice if this type of vaccine is available for dogs as it is for wild/zoo animals. thanks jim A: There is no oral form of the vaccine. you might also ask your veterinarian about the new once every 3 year rabies vaccine that certainly be helpful in your situation.
Infected tailQ: My dog sassy has an infection at the base of her tail. she is still able to wag it, but it is nearly double in size compared to the rest of it. i am disabled and it is hard for me to get her to the vet, which i'm determined to do tomorrow. the vet said it sounded to be bacterial, which i have already taken her to see them in which they gave no meds for! what might the best option be? A: I don't understand why your vet did not prscribe oral antibiotics if it is bacterial. you may want to call them back or see a different vet. for now use topical neosporine or related antibiotic until you get an answer.
ConfusedQ: I have a 15 month old cocker spaniel. i took her to the vet and they said not to use any over the counter flea treatments( like flea collar, etc) so i took it off and i shampooed her with a mild shampoo and now she has fleas again. i applied the frontline treatment they gave me but she is still not flea free. she is an indoor dog and i don't want to get them. how long does it take for the frontline to work and are over the counter flea shampoos and collars bad? help!!! thanks!!!! A: Frontline is itself an over the counter product and is very effective at controlling fleas. it usually begins to kill fleas within 18 hours of application. contolling a flea problem involves treating the pet, treating the house and treating the yard.
Shop for: frontline
BreedingQ: I need to know how many times a day you can use one male dog for breeding. A: I only would do it once to twice
