Perfect teeth but falling outQ: My 9 year old dog has perfect teeth. no gum problems and no tarter. recently i have discovered that his front top two teeth are missing. is there something in his diet that i can change to prevent him from losing more teeth? A: Some dogs do have tendency to lose teeth as they get older. just make sure on good natural diet like pet guard or innova or canidae. i feel that reason why these problems are so common is that we have gotten away from what dogs evolved to eat and that is meat and bone based diets. i would check out barf diet info at barf.com to learn more
Serious flea and tick controlQ: We have a yellow lab that seems to be a tick magnet and a slightly smaller german shepard aust. cattle dog that is less so. they spend a sizable amount of time out doors in a 1 acre area and the lab has multiple ticks removed daily. what would you reccommend. A: Myt favorite product is preventic collar which works great for 3 months as long as not submerged in water which inactivates it. other good choice is frontline plus from 1800petmeds Shop for: tick, preventic collar, 1800petmeds, frontline

Bumps on my dogs stomach and back legs?Q: My dog just recently got what looks like a rash on his stomach. he's been licking and scratching at it. i can't afford to take him to a vet. he's is 6 months old german shepherd/ lab mix. what do you recommend i do for treatment? A: I would use antibacterial shampoo every few days such as oxydex or chlorihexiderm shampoo from 1800petmeds. you could try topical gentacin topical spray as well in addition to oral benadryl at dose of 1/2 to 1 mg per pound orally twice daily. if persists, you will have to see vet for stronger meds and antibiotics, etc

Still has fleasQ: I have a cat that is 2 years old and he doesn't go outside at all. i also have 2 dogs. all of the animals are on frontline plus. the dogs do not have any fleas but my cat still gets them even though i have him on frontline plus. he is a large cat, about 15 lbs. please let me know if i should give my cat a different flea medicine because frontline plus doesn't seem to be working and these fleas are driving me crazy!! A: For the immediate problem i would recommend your using capstar tablets for your cat for about 3 days or so. that will kill all the adult fleas on him. the problem is probably that there are fleas in his area in the house. you have to vacuum the area every day for a few days and perhaps use a spray to clean the area. you can get information on flea control on our website but this should work.
