Ear mitesQ: I have 2 dogs, one a golden retreiver and a small poodle type mixed breed. they had ear mites and i put in ear-rite insecticidal ear wash. it seemed to do the job for awhile then they came back and i did it again. but i think they didn't get taken care of totally. when i brought my cat in they gave him something they squeezed on his neck. is there something like that, that i could just order on line? A: I doubt the ear mites persist as usually once treated they dont tend to rcur. i would have vet exam of ear and microscopic exam of any discharge to rule out mites from other yeast or bacterial infections of ear. but product you ask about is called revolution which can be preventative against ear mites Shop for: ear mites, revolution
Pill comparisionQ: I am trying to compare the various pill meds for fleas and ticks . the cost of the treatment is one of the things i'm considering along with how effective it is . A: I am not familiar with a pill that is effective against fleas and ticks. if you want a tablet, you can use program. however, this medication is for fleas only. as long as your pet is a dog, you could then use a preventic collar for tick control.

Still has fleasQ: I have a cat that is 2 years old and he doesn't go outside at all. i also have 2 dogs. all of the animals are on frontline plus. the dogs do not have any fleas but my cat still gets them even though i have him on frontline plus. he is a large cat, about 15 lbs. please let me know if i should give my cat a different flea medicine because frontline plus doesn't seem to be working and these fleas are driving me crazy!! A: For the immediate problem i would recommend your using capstar tablets for your cat for about 3 days or so. that will kill all the adult fleas on him. the problem is probably that there are fleas in his area in the house. you have to vacuum the area every day for a few days and perhaps use a spray to clean the area. you can get information on flea control on our website but this should work.

16yr old cat very illQ: Hi, my 16 year old cat is very ill right now. i noticed her walking unsteady yesterday and now she won't even get up. she has tinted blood in her urine which leads me to believe she has a very bad urinary tract infection. i've contacted my vet, but he is out of town. he told me to give her some honey because she hasn't been eating or drinking at all and is very weak. after i spoke with him, i realized that i have antibiotics from last month that were for my dog. i can't stand to see her suffer, here is the name that is on the bottle it is abbreviated smztmp i also have a bottle of rimadyl 100mg. right now anything to help, can i give my cat a very small amount of either one of these to help ease her discomfort? thank-you A: Don't give rimadyl to cats. you could try 120 mg of the smz once daily but this antibiotic can occasionally cause side effects in cats as well as cause excessive drooling so i would stay away from unless at direction of your vet. really needs exam and blood work as could have other issues going on causing blood in urine like kidney failure.

Barf dietQ: Is the biologically available raw diet able to give my dog all the nutients that he/she needs? A: No. i suggest you consult your veterinarian for a diet that would be best for your dog.
Parvo-in pit bullQ: My pit bull was diagnosed with the parvo virus the other day when we took him to the vet and they told us to give him pedialite and gatorade he kept it doown and last night he pooped a little bit of blood and i was wanting to know if he will be alright and what that means A: Usually dogs with parvo virus are hospitilized and put on iv fluids and injectable antibiotics to prevent secondary infections. but there are different strains of parvo, etc in terms of severity of illness. very common with viral infections of intestines to have loose stool with someblood at times
InfectionQ: I have a female golden retriever recent heat cycle swelling on her female area loss of appetite incresed thurst and with uncontrolable licking for 3 days. swelling is down now no blood, but yellow discharge present. we changed the brand of dog food she has greatly increased her food intake and is interested in playing ball again. will this happen every heat cycle? we have foxtails in the yard and i have to keep the ears and toes cleaned out all the time. is there a chance a fox tail could be stuck in her skin? or maybe a urinary infection? is ther any ointment or rinses we can try? thank you ned A: Cant tell if it will happen with each heat cycle. i doubt a fox tail but have vet check if in doubt. if symptoms were more persistant then have urine checked at vet for uti
Sores on both cat and dogQ: We have a 4 year oldyellow tabby cat (he is an inside/outside cat that does hunt) and a 6 year old bischon. they both get raised scab-like areas on their bodies. my dog has even chewed at one area so much that it is raw and bleeding. i think he may have some skin allergy, but i have already been giving him an antihistimine for this. both animals have been given shots for a skin infection in the past--what is that and could they both have the same thing? A: Tough to say. likely allergies but should have vet exam to rule out skin parasites as well as mange, etc fleas, etc.
